World At War 85: Storming the Gap Companion
The First Battles of World War III
The Warsaw Pact crosses the inner German border in 1985 and drives west. NATO has spent forty years planning for this morning and has never once had to do it.
Storming the Gap is the first volume in the World At War 85 series, a game of fast platoon-level combat where a battle is decided in the time it takes to lose a formation.
Both Players Roll
Attacking units and defending units both roll. You are never sitting and watching while somebody else resolves an attack on you. Hits are compared and applied immediately, and everything you need to fight a unit is printed on its counter, so there is no combat results table to look anything up in.
The Turn Does Not Wait for You
Initiative, formation activation, random turn length and close air support are all part of the same sequence. You never know exactly how much turn is left, which is what makes holding something back a real decision instead of an obvious one.
Both Sides Have a Problem
Fight desperate delaying actions with US Armored Cavalry and West German Panzergrenadiers. Throw together local counterattacks from whatever armour is to hand. Or come the other way, landing Soviet air assault troops on a road to open it for the columns behind them. West German, American, East German and Soviet forces are all here.
World At War 85: Storming the Gap Companion book covers all the module rules, scenarios and important player aids. The Companion book can be used along with our board game edition or for virtual gaming online.
