No Honor In Surrender
No Retreat, No Surrender
Island fighting had no flanks and nowhere to withdraw to. Both sides understood that, and it changed how they fought.
United States Marines or the Japanese Army, at squad level.
Squads, leaders and weapon teams working through dense terrain, fortified positions and open ground that nobody wants to cross. Tanks, aircraft and artillery in support, and flamethrowers, satchel charges and mortars for the positions that will not give up any other way.
Two Ways of Fighting
The Japanese player infiltrates, holds prepared ground, and uses the Banzai charge when the moment is right and sometimes when it is not. The American player brings disciplined firepower, armour and close air support, and has to get all of it to arrive at the same time.
Where You Fight
Scenarios take you to Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and each one is a different problem. What worked on one island will get men killed on the next.
