Lock 'n Load Tactical: Bear and the Jackal
Soviet War in Afghanistan, 1979 to 1989
No Front Lines. Only Firefights
For a decade, the Soviet Union fought a hard and costly war in Afghanistan against the Mujahideen. The conflict unfolded across mountains, deserts, and remote villages where conventional set-piece battles were rare. Ambushes, helicopter assaults, raids, and cordon-and-sweep operations defined the fighting.
The Bear and the Jackal brings this brutal modern conflict to the Lock ’n Load Tactical Series at the squad level, where leadership, positioning, and split-second decisions determine survival.
Nine Scenarios of Asymmetric Warfare
This expansion includes nine intense firefights inspired by real operations from the Soviet Afghan War. Every scenario emphasizes maneuver, surprise, and the constant threat of ambush.
Expanded Forces and New Counters
You command:
• Soviet Army units and elite Spetsnaz special forces
• Determined Mujahideen fighters skilled in guerrilla tactics
• Modern weapons, including the RPG-7 and automatic rifles
• Helicopter-supported operations and convoy security missions
The Mujahideen rely on terrain, concealment, and sudden strikes. Soviet forces bring discipline, firepower, and air mobility. Victory demands adapting to a battlefield where the enemy rarely stands in the open.
Larger Geomorphic Maps
The Bear and the Jackal is played on two oversized geomorphic maps, each approximately 9.5 by 16.5 inches. These maps represent rocky high ground, isolated roads, and rugged terrain that favor ambush and mobile engagements.
If you are ready for convoy escorts under threat, mountain firefights, and high-risk helicopter insertions, The Bear and the Jackal delivers modern squad-level combat at its most intense.
