It Started Here - LZ X-Ray
It Started Here, November 1965
A clearing in the Ia Drang valley big enough to land helicopters in, with a mountain beside it full of people who knew the Americans were coming.
Hold the landing zone, or close it.
You command squads, weapons teams and leaders on both sides. The Americans have mobility, artillery and air support, and not enough men on the ground until the next lift comes in. The North Vietnamese have numbers and the ground, and every hour the perimeter holds is an hour wasted.
Firepower Arrives, Eventually
Mortars, artillery strikes and air support are what keeps the perimeter alive, and calling them in takes time you may not have. Terrain and position decide whether a platoon holds or comes apart.
Several Moments, Not One Battle
The scenarios cover different points in the fighting at X-Ray, so you can take the landing, the night, or the worst of it, and try a different approach each time.
